Meet the team.

Mi Pueblo couldn’t be possible without our amazing executive board. The Mi Pueblo e-board is made up of student leaders who serve as the backbone of our organization. They help lead and coordinate events for our community with the help of each other and the members of our committees.

The Presidents

Bryan Sorto Hernandez

Year: 2025

Major: H.O.L.D

Minor: Public Policy & Spanish

Bryan is a Junior majoring in Human and Organizational Leadership Development and double minoring in Spanish for Legal Professions and Public Policy. He is a first-generation Salvadoran student from Silver Spring, MD. During his free time, he loves to go out with friends, try new foods, and play volleyball! A fun fact about him is that he snaps with his thumb and pointer finger. Bryan is super excited to see Mi Pueblo’s presence continue to grow and is stoked to have fun with you all!

Elsa Landeros

Year: 2024

Major: Economics

Minor: Education & Spanish

Elsa Landeros is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in Economics and double minoring in Education & Spanish for the Business Professions! She grew up in Hillsborough, NC and has close ties with her Aguascalientes, Mexico roots. She looks forward to connecting the Latinx/Hispanic community at UNC & seeing all the wonderful Mi Pueblo events come together!!! Building relationships with others and making students feel welcome is one of her biggest passions.

Yasmin Cervantes

Major: H.O.L.D and Public Policy

Minor: Education

Yasmin Cervantes is a Public Policy and Human and Organizational Leadership Development double major. Both of her parents are from Guanajuato, Mexico and it is her favorite place to travel to. She served as an Expresiones co-chair for the 2022-2023 Mi Pueblo team and is now very excited to serve again as a Senior Advisor this year.

Laura Saavedra Forero

Director of Community Service

Year: 2024

Major: Neuroscience

Minor: Chemistry

Laura Saavedra Forero (she/her) is a junior majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry on the pre-med track. She is Colombiana and from Charlotte, NC. Saavedra Forero will be serving as this year’s Community Service Director, and she hopes to implement a community-centered approach to service through mutual aid efforts.

Edgar Torres Hernandez

Director of External Outreach

Year: 2025

Major: Psychology

Minor: Health and Society

Edgar is a Junior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Health and Society. He is from Asheboro, NC with roots coming from Mexico. Edgar is also a first-generation student. A fun fact is that he was called the class clown in 1st grade. He is excited to continue uplifting the Latinx community, and providing an inclusive and fun environment for all!

 

Marisela de Jesus Vera

Director of Internal Outreach

Year: 2024

Major: Psychology

Minor: Spanish

Marisela transferred to Carolina from community college last year. She is now a senior majoring in Psychology and minoring in Spanish for the Medical Professions. She was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. She is excited to work with everyone, especially with the Amgix Program this year!

Jonathan Cortez

Director of Communications

Major: Political Science & Public Policy

Minor:  Spanish

Jonathan Cortez is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is majoring in Political Science and Public Policy with a minor in Spanish for the Legal Professions. He is from Mount Olive, NC but comes from Mexican roots del Estado de México. This is his second year serving as Communications Director and he is so excited to be part of the team once again.

Laura Lora Rosario

Director of Communications

Year: 2025

Major: Exercise Sports Science

Minor: Medical Anthropology

Laura Lora Rosario is a junior double majoring in Exercise Sports Science and Medical Anthropology. She is a proud Dominican and represents from the 910! When she isn’t doing school work achieving her dreams of becoming a Physical Therapist Laura loves going to the gym and sleeping in her bed. 

Karen Olivares

Director of Finances

Year: 2025

Major: Business Administration & Economics

Minor: Data Science

Karen is the Director of Finance for Mi Pueblo. She is a junior, double majoring in Business Administration and Economics with a minor in Data Science. Born in Lima, Peru, and raised in Cornelius, North Carolina, she enjoys going on vacations with her parents and little brother, and she loves staying in touch with her grandparents through WhatsApp calls. In her free time, she enjoys expressing her creativity in various ways, such as making bracelets, doing origami, or learning how to dance. At UNC, she loves hanging out with friends and trying new restaurants, creating spontaneous memories – whether it’s a night out or a cozy evening of playing “Spoons.” She is always open to motivating others and helping them reach their goals. One of her favorite quotes is: “An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it is going to launch you into something great. So just focus and keep aiming.” Most of all, she loves connecting with other people by sharing a good laugh as life does not always need to be so serious!

Steven Alonso

Conexiones Chair

Major: Biology

Minor: Spanish

Steven is a sophomore majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish for the Medical Professions. He has the goal of becoming an occupational therapist. Steven is excited to be a part of the Mi Pueblo team as the conexiones co-chair this year, with hopes of continuing to foster a strong community within members. Fabiana López Muñiz

Major: Medical Anthropology and

Public Health Biostatistics

Fabiana was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and she lived there for 7 years before moving to the United States. She is a sophomore double majoring in Public Health Biostatistics and Medical Anthropology. After graduating in 2026 she hopes to go to graduate school to earn a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology and a Doctorate in either Immunology or Virology. Her hobbies include reading and watching anime and she loves spending time with friends and family. She is excited for what Mi Pueblo has to offer this year and she applied to be Conexiones chair to plan fun events that would celebrate our culture and give members a chance to socialize. She is most excited to plan Carnaval and Noche and she is excited to meet everyone!

 

Cecilia Barcenas

Health in Action Chair

Year: 2025

Major: Biology

Minor: Chemistry

Cecilia Oviedo Barcenas, or Ceci, is one of the 23-24 Health in Action, HIA, co-chairs. She is a Mexican junior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in biology with a chemistry minor. As an honors student and Covenant Scholar, she’s dedicated to academic excellence. Serving as a Peer Guide for Health Professions Advising, Ceci is passionate about helping others. Her goal is to become a dentist serving marginalized communities, particularly the Latinx population. Coming from NC’s Ashe County, she cherishes outdoor moments with friends and family. Open to assisting anyone or engaging in friendly chats, Ceci is a welcoming presence for all.
 

 

 

 

 

 

Natalie Perez

Health in Action Chair

Year: 2025

Major: Public Policy

Minor: Health and Society & Entrepreneurship

Natalie Perez is from Siler City, North Carolina, a small town that is largely Latinx-dominated. She is an orgullosa Salvadoreña y Mexicana, the best of both worlds. She is also the oldest of 4 siblings and is a First Gen. Natalie loves to spend time with friends and family as they are what is most important to her. Natalie is a third-year student studying Public Policy with minors in Health and society and Entrepreneurship at UNC Chapel Hill. She hopes to return to Grad School to get her Master’s in Health Policy and Management to later work in the Health Policy field. Natalie’s closest values are advocating for proper representation for the Latinx community, helping minorities gain their proper rights, and reforming the immigration system. Natalie is also open to making new connections! Feel free to reach out to her for anything.

 

 

 

Alan Rojas Rodriguez

Alan Rojas-Rodriguez is a Junior double majoring in Political Science and Peace, War, and Defense, minoring in Data Science.
